Thanks to our Godfather for the « Monstrosity »!!

This one goes out to Martin Gallant (a.k.a. The godfather) and his brother Pascal. Thanks to them, we got to hit one of the nicest jumps ever found in Whistler’s backcountry. Pascal has been around for years, filming for a lot of different companies such as The Gathering, Forum, Mack Dawg, Defective Films, Whiteout and is now a filmer for Sledneck. He found this jump scoping around with his sled crew and told his brother Martin. The next day, they were up there building this enormous gap! The construction was sketchy said Martin. They had to put snow blocs on top of flat rocks, which had a bit of an angle to them, so that made it difficult for the snow to stick and, to make their task even harder, they had to be carefull not to fall into the gap.
A couple days later, we met Martin while we were shooting and that’s when he invited us to go hit, what he calls, « The Monstrosity !!». This thing is massive! Believe me!
So Gaetan Chanut and Dave Melancon hooked up with Martin to session this surnatural jump. The snow was really wind blown and the landing wasn’t that steep so it made it really hard for them to stump tricks and the consequences were huge. Gaetan managed to land a bs3 which looks really good. A week later we came back with more soldiers. The conditions were a bit better. Matt Dano and Reno B each added a trick to their part.
We heard that Devun Walsh is eyeing it as well but hasn’t hit it yet. So if we get more good snow, dont be surprise to see that jump in the next Mack Dawg as well. Big thanks to the Gallant brothers and good luck to Martin for his next extreme contest in Alaska on April 6th. You can watch him live on www.thenorthface.com.
